Living Things is the fifth studio album by the American rock band Linkin Park. It is set for release on June 26, 2012 through Warner Bros. Records. Production was handled by co-lead vocalist Mike Shinoda and Rick Rubin, who both co-produced the band’s two previous studio albums, Minutes to Midnight (2007) and A Thousand Suns (2010)

The band has stated that the album features a new direction in their music, combining the rap rock sounds of their debut album, Hybrid Theory (2000) and the electronic mixes of A Thousand Suns, whilst keeping a brand new, original sound.

The album is currently available as an audio stream at iTunes. Note that this is not available outside the US.

Well, Burn It Down sounds… Good. It’s not what I hoped for, cause I thought it’ll be ”more Hybrid Theory”, but these times are probably over. Nevertheless I’m waiting eagerly for Living Things, which as I wish were not simply more energetic and pop version of Thousand Suns ;)

I’m of the ‘hybrid theory generation’ and was greatly disappointed by their last two albums. Just listened to Burn It Down, and it sounds okay-ish, but good enough for me to have a little hope for their new album. :D Bring it on!

From what’s out there so far, this doesn’t sound too bad – a little too pop for my taste, but still good. Be interesting to see what they do with their sound.

For those of you who haven’t heard it yet the new single is out and it sounds more like a generic club song than anything they’ve ever done before. They keep saying they’re “experimenting” but they really just come off sounding like a pop act who whines instead of who drinks and has sex with random skanks. This will be a waste of time as they think they’re moving forward but they’re just joining with everyone else on the pop scene.

      Laugh all you desire, its a horrible song that caters more to a popular sound using basic hip-hop rhythms. Every time Chester yells “Lies” “Greed” or “Misery” it feels like a ‘throw your hands in the air’ moment. Its bland, its generic, and there’s nothing bold about it. A Thousand Suns was interesting after the meh that was M2M but I haven’t got high hopes for this album. Sorry you guys are those that will buy whatever they release, good or not. Me, I get bored with this kind of nonsense. Its not bold, just lazy.

I was greatly disappointed with LP’s last 2 albums, and I’m not overly impressed with Burn it Down either. I loved Hybrid Theory and Meteora, as I’m sure most LP fans did, but this new stuff better not sound anything like their latest single, or I think all hope will be gone from me.

I worked for a company when i was in college that distributed CD’s DVD’s and Books to big box stores here in the states.. and I can say that regardless of security I can think of 50 ways i could have walked out with street dated material.. and we usually had product flowing through at least a month or two before release. So why is this taking so long..

  well, it kinda has leaked. iTunes made a Full Album Stream available eralier today. Probably a mistake due to the fact that a “normal” streaming was supposed to start on June 19th in Germany and June 18th in other Countries. So, some clever people ripped the Stream and put online somewhere, someplace. hope this helps. if not: gidf.de (don`t worry mods, its just google ;-) )

Fan since 1999, it did leak, and it is an awesome album. A little short as usual, but old fans and new fans should really like this album. Minutes to Midnight was there worst full album for me, I think they were growing, then ATS was stronger and this one hits is perfect, old school, Mike at his best rapping to date hands down, little screaming strong chester, some soft chester, old school break beats, techno, brad even sings, the whole ablum start to finish is awesome, needs 3 more tracks, which I am sure will come later, B sides, but man GREAT TO HAVE LP BACK. ATS was close, this was right on perfect.

I know I’m going to get some hate for this, but from one listen through, i can only pick out three or four good songs from this release. I’m kind of disappointed… I LOVE LP too… Maybe a couple more listens through will soften my heart towards this album. What happened…?

This one was kind of reverse of A Thousand Suns for me. When I first listened to that I didn’t much care for it, but learned to like it. When I first listened to these songs they were amazing, now they are alright, pretty good, but none of the songs really stand out, except maybe “Powerless”.

Living Things is fucking brilliant, their best record.
After all this years since 1996 till now they learn new things,get new sounds,new toolboxs and now this is the work of that 16 years on 12 songs.

Highlights: Best Song: Hard one, all songs are great
-In My Remains except Skin to bone, i may have to
-Lies Greed Misery listen that a couple more times.
-I’ll Be Gone
-Roads Untraveled
-Until It Breaks
-Powerless

Listening to the record we can all see some influence of all previous records and one new movement (genre a little more electronic but a hard electronic rock style.

Wow. This album is stunning. They’ve used that insane mixing of genre and sounds from A Thousand Suns, thrown a bit more of their old rock sound and some sick rapping in and made an album where no two songs sound alike but still remains cohesive and focused. Every song has something to hook the listener, the layering of sounds and effects is incredible. You can hear bits of every album in there and it all works together so wonderfully.

They’ve come out and put out an album that’s musically groundbreaking, without being all over the place like A Thousand Suns.
