On her special Yahoo live stream Taylor announced that her upcoming album, titled 1989, will be released on October 27, 2014! The title was apparently inspired by late 80's pop music and the year she was born. The first single is "Shake It Off" and the video is now released. Deluxe version will also be available with 3 additional tracks which are phone memos of some sort. More information will hopefully be available soon!

Shake It Off is such a fun song! Great video, too.

Fun, indeed! I don’t want to resort to comparison but it seems to possess the same chill qualities of something Pharrell Williams would produce. And it’s basically a middle finger to all those who will undoubtedly talk smack about how she sold out by straying away from country.

The video? I’m probably not the only one to be reminded of Tony Basil’s “Mickey” during the cheerleader scene; although that was released in ‘earlier’ 80’s. That scene with gold glitter outfit? Lady Gaga, but with goofy moves only Taylor will dare. And I was totally entranced by the funky finger moves the first few views; which I can only blame Mary Jane for. :P

Lol! I think the song is a lot of fun, mostly what I expected from her first single considering how upbeat and pop “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” was. I loved the video, I think it’s ironic that the whole purpose of the video was a massive middle finger to everyone who criticises her for her music and dance moves, yet all I seem to be reading in music articles is how embarrassing her dance moves are…. That’s the point!
Even though Taylor’s country sound is what made me fall in love with her music, I’m really looking forward to this album. I think it will be interesting considering she claims it is her most “sonically cohesive” album she’s done…. Probably means saying goodbye to the slower country songs :(

Its not bad, but seeing as she was really hinting at some singer/song-writer shit with her last two albums, “Shake It Off” is a massive disappointment. You would’ve thought Taylor would have come across Janet Jackson in her hours of listening to late 80s music and found out you can do deep singer/song-writer lyrics with some massive pop hooks and beats. I guess not.

‘And the leakers gonna leak, leak, leak…’ I’m waiting for it.
“This is a bit of a rebirth” is the thing. What we gonna get? I love the hype.

Assuming that this album follows the trend of week-early-previews, only 11 more days! But this is Taylor so I wouldn’t be surprised if the leak keeps tight until just a few days prior. Otherwise, I’m surprised they couldn’t push for a second single (or a preview at least) before the release. If anything, I’m thinking something ‘might’ happen on the thirteenth since that is her lucky number.Team Swift! :)

I’ve never really been a fan of Taylor Swift, but after hearing Shake It Off I was looking forward to this album. The other 2 songs she’s released so far (Out of the Woods, and Welcome to New York) haven’t appealed to me at all. Unless those 2 songs are the worst on the album, I have a feeling I will not enjoy it nearly as much as I was expecting to, which is sad because I think she has a great voice.

I don’t know if it’s just my current obsession with Lorde but I love the two latest synth heavy tracks. To me at least, all the songs that’s currently out have a personality of their own. Regardless of the style of music she chooses, it’s still Taylor – a ‘fun’ positive music created from her simple diary that transports and encourages. I’m all for positive fun. :)

It’s odd that you mention Lorde, because I really like her whole album, Pure Heroine. Even the extra songs on the extended edition (The Love Club is probably my favorite track on the whole album). I see where you draw the comparison, but I think the reason I like Lorde’s album and not Taylor’s synth tracks is because Lorde’s voice feels much darker and lends itself to the minimal/synth sounds on her album, whereas Taylor has a really upbeat cheery sound that works better for pop music like Shake It Off. Also I feel like Out of the Woods’ chorus is so repetitive it gets annoying before the song’s over. I should retract my opinion of Welcome to New York until I’ve heard more than just the preview, but it feels pretty generic to me.

I’m sorry I wasn’t trying to change your preference or anything. I was simply expressing my point of view, that’s all. I do love reading different opinions whether positive or negative, as long as it’s creative such as yours and everyone else here. So thank you all!

“I got that good girl faith and a tight little skirt”. Flirty side of Taylor Swift. I like it!

No need to apologize, I wasn’t trying to be defensive or anything. I just thought it was interesting we both like Lorde, but have opposite views on this album. I, too, enjoy reading differing opinions on music. I feel like music is so abstract that there is no ‘wrong’ taste or reason to like/dislike a song. I’m glad you brought up the Lorde comparison because that never came to my mind, but I agree there is a similarity.

Taylor has implanted a very secretive GPS chip into every physical copies, not naked to our ordinary eyes. And she will send undercover agents dressed in black to hunt down anyone who got an early copy and mentions anything about spreading it. ;)

Scary thought, isn’t it? But some fiction is closer to truth than you think.
