It’s been relatively quiet of late for Scott Weiland, but that’s all about the change as 2015 gets underway. The veteran vocalist revealed to Rolling Stone that his new album with his backing band The Wildabouts will be titled ‘Blaster’ and it’s now on schedule for a March 31 release through Softdrive Records.

When mention of his last solo set ‘Happy in Galoshes’ came up, Weiland stated, “‘Happy in Galoshes’ was an experimental art record for the most part. ‘Blaster’ is definitely a band sound — a stripped down, furry sound with a lot of space between the notes. But it’s tight and to-the-point while keeping that garage rock vibe to it.”

Helping to keep that vibe are guitarist Jeremy Brown, bassist Tommy Black and drummer Danny Thompson, who honed their sound with Weiland on the 2013 ‘Purple to the Core’ trek. The vocalist reveals that he and the band started working up songs during the tour, then hit a couple of studios in Los Angeles including his own Lavish Studios with producer Rick Parker to complete the effort.

The rocker offers in a press release, “The album has its own distinctive sound, but it also can entice those Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver fans who have stuck by me. Over the years, I’ve gone back and forth between art records and being in a band. This is a hybrid. What we’ve come up with is really heavy, slinky, and sexy. There’s a lot of fuzz. The best way to describe it is ‘Furry’.” He concludes, “I knew I wanted to make a rock record. It all just came together.”

Weiland also touched on a few song titles with Rolling Stone, calling ‘Way She Moves’ as a “sexy T-Rex kind of tune,” while ‘White Lightning’ is “about making and selling moonshine back in the day.” The vocalist also reveals the latter track was inspired by the movie ‘Lawless.’ Another song, ‘Modzilla,’ is Weiland’s “mishmash of psychedelic vibes, taking you on a wild ride.”
