@enage first off, it doesn’t surprise me that you couldn’t manage to do a list of only ten albums ;)
Still don’t get the love for Air’s album, I think Beach house was so much better – Doing an album which grows on you that is.

But thanks to you I’ve had Yukon blonde’s album on repeat. Never heard of them before and they’re really good.

Now I’m anxious to know if Patrick Watson’s latest album is a return to form. Close to paradise is one of my favorite albums of all time.

@Mojib haha yup, I tried to do 10 first but felt bad about leaving a bunch off (I actually did a top 50 list on what.cd a bit back as well)

Personally I thought the new Air album was their best since Moon Safari, my only gripe is that it’s so short but compared to the movie it is pretty long. Beach House was good too but I didn’t find anything that really surprised me compared to their other releases (that may change as I keep listening and hopefully get a better quality file)

Glad to hear about Yukon Blonde! I just got it in the mail on vinyl the other day, sounds great as well. Yes Patrick Watson, I haven’t had a chance to download it yet because I don’t have time to listen but super excited.

Finally I’ve been listening to the new Sigur Ros album and it is fantastic, I’m sure it will probably jump up my list as well.

Edit: Forgot to mention as well, I don’t expect this list to be anything close to my final one with new Teen Daze, Japandroids, Metric, Tallest Man on Earth, Stars, and Animal Collective on the way.

Was listening to Visions – Grimes there again today, and it probably is my favourite album of the year so far. Top 5 anyway:

    Visions – Grimes
Given To The Wild – The Maccabees
    Bloom – Beach House
    Valtari – Sigur Ros
Put Your Back N2 It – Perfume Genius

@enage, thank you for reminding me of new Animal Collective and Tallest Man On Earth. Excite!

2012 has been good so far. I’ve been listening to more electronic music than usual because of the high-quality releases this year.

    Some favs:

    Grimes – Visions
    Sharon Van Etten – Tramp
First Aid Kit – The Lion’s Roar
    Cate le Bon – Cyrk
Soko – I Thought I Was An Alien
    Chromatics – Kill for Love
    Tanlines – Mixed Emotions
Cloud Nothings – Attack on Memory
La Sera – Sees the Light

Still have to listen to Chromatics! But I did listen to Cloud Nothings and Of Montreal’s new albums, and I really wasn’t feeling them tbh… I hadn’t really heard of either previously, so I didn’t have much context. But I didn’t really enjoy them! Just saying!

Only four releases I can think of at the moment that really stood out. I’ve had my musical sustenance this year on EPs, mostly.

    1 – Meshuggah – Koloss
    2 – Veil of Maya – Eclipse
    3 – T.R.A.M. – Lingua Franca (highly recommended.)
4 – Let Yourself Be Huge – Cloudkicker

This early in the year, there isn’t much that’s out that I’ve been looking forward to (other than Skyharbor’s debut, which was a massive disappointment.)

I’m stoked for the new Periphery, Gojira, Silversun Pickups, and maybe, just maybe, some new Eleventh He Reaches London.

    1. Joey Bada$$ – 1999 – Don’t let the misleading guido name dissuade you. If you miss the golden age boom bap of early 90s NY rap then Joey is what you need to listen to. The album came out in June and I still listen to it at least two or three times a week. It’s also a free mixtape and easily found. PRO ERA, Joey’s crew, also have a mixtape out there.

The rest of my list isn’t all that different from what is already here.
