Hurry up and be the 11th already, holy crap, this is probably going to be the last great metal album of the year, and 2012 was one hell of a year for metal.

    COC HAS LEAKED!
Though I’m not a good writer, I decided to give it a shot. Are you prepared for this CoC? It may be a small CoC, but does size really matter, or is it about quality? Let me start out by saying that is one polished CoC.
I just recently started listening to Circle Of Contempt this year, starting with Artifacts In Motion and eventually finding a way to listen to Color Lines as well as Rumour Has It (under the band’s former moniker Thrust Moment). Artifacts In Motion was impressive, but paled in comparison to other technical deathcore giants such as Born Of Osiris, Chelsea Grin and Veil Of Maya. To be honest, when I first heard of the genre, I never thought it would last or catch on for that matter.
With that being said, I hold Born Of Osiris in high esteem, and find the progressive style found in The Discovery to be amazing, however, this being Circle Of Contempt, I didn’t really know what to expect from an EP that comes in just over nineteen and a half minutes. Though that is expected considering most deathcore LPs clock in around thirty to forty minutes at most. So what exactly do I think about Entwine The Threads? Imagine this if you will, imagine if Born Of Osiris didn’t suck. That’s right, I said it, Entwine The Threads is that phenomenal.
From the first track, which happens to be the title track, you had better strap in and prepare for an emotional rollercoaster. The introduction comes in and lasts for about fifteen seconds, giving the album an eerie presence, then percussion, and some not so violent shredding is added, all leading up to the forty-six second, at which point the album just takes off down the first 90 ft drop. At this point realize the amount of skill it takes to have vocals this brutal, in-synch and all the while in key. Just over half way through it mellow downs for a short period, allowing the listener to take in the amount of ridiculousness he just heard, and then bam, at 4:07 we hear something so utterly beautiful, the first of many guitar (and no, the solos aren’t overplayed nor do they feel out of place) solos throughout the album. As one may expect, the time signatures are almost retarded and impossible.
The song seamlessly flows into the second track, Dare To Defy. Which though a great track in it’s own (and I mean great), it may possibly be the worst track on the album (if that’s even possible).
Transient Belief, the third track uses some of the most awkward time signatures I’ve ever heard, but again, it sounds perfect, the vocals, percussion, bass, everything just fits. The brutality has no room to stop, so it just kind of keeps on going, but at the same time the lead guitar is there to a perfect pith of harmony and beauty making the chaos not too overwhelming.
To Entitle Vacancy really pulls everything together, starting out in a peaceful way that stays in the background throughout the song, put the guitar playing in this song is the true beauty. I’ll just say shredding taken to a new level. It’s a sad sounding song but at the same time brings one a sense of hope in a world full of despair, this track will likely be played several times by the listener (though the entire EP has a lot of replay value). This song perhaps, entwines the threads.
The final track, Perceive The Mendacity is similar to all the other tracks on the album, the progression continues throughout the entire album, but this is one hell of a conclusion. The vocals are produced in a way to allow the album to climax at the proper point, not too soon, not too late. And again, the whacky ass time signatures come back into play, a riff from To Entitle Vacancy is clearly heard right before the climax (the riff may be the actual climax). And the conclusion is just as emotional as the introduction, leaving the listener in awe.
Overall, in 20 minutes from listening, I guarantee you’ll be playing this several times more in succession. The excess amount of keyboard addition is very welcomed as well and makes Entwine The Threads feel that much more progressive and emotional. I really can’t find a single flaw with this album, and believe it to be a huge breakthrough in the deathcore genre. This album may not have single handedly set in stone the genre, but it sure does help (deathcore is here to stay!). I also believe this album will be the defining moment of Circle Of Contempt’s career and every album they release hence force will be compared to it. As I said before, it topples everything. Album of the year? Yes, easily, even with all the other great metal albums of 2012, this one stands at the top. My score: 11 out of 10 or UBERTASTIC. –Ubertool
