Yesterday, In Flames’ website was hacked, and the hackers claimed the band has been “trolling [us] for way too long,” and that they were going to release very valuable information on the site at 6am EST today; it now seems pretty clear that the hacking wasn’t real, but, rather, a PR stunt to announce the name of the band’s new album. Oh, In Flames… you HAVE been trolling us!

ANYWAY, the album is apparently called Siren Charms, and it will be out in September.

I don’t like these singles, sheesh, where’s the old In Flames? I know I shouldn’t bitch about “how bands change”, but this is just weak…

I love “Sounds Of A Playground Fading” and I guess it’s the In Flames’ album I listen to the most, but I’m also unsure about the “Rusted Nail” single… Hopefully the whole album will be solid.

I dunno whats going on with these guys…. i really loved reroute to remain & soundtrack to your escape, but it seems there going backwards seems like this was ment for a new passenger album maybe.

Going to preorder Siren Charms, but I don’t expect much. Will most likely be the last In Flames album that I care about. Too bad.

Seriously… I absolutely loved everything they did until 2004. Soundtrack to Your Escape was the first In Flames album that really disappointed me. Come Clarity was worse and it went downhill from there. I hate people bitching about bands that change over time because change usually is a good thing and keeps things interesting – but the stuff from the past 10 years just hasn’t been my cup of tea. And I tried with every new release – they always disappointed me. Mainly because Anders just doesn’t grunt the way he did before, he mostly whimpers and whines like Johnathan Davis from Korn in his quieter moments or something. Just compare Gyroscope, Embody the Invisible or Swim with the newer material – the new stuff has that weak singing and not as much melody anymore… Then again, it’s all a matter of taste and this is just my point of view, so… no offense to all of the fans of the newer material either.

I really loved everything from Reroute to Remain and onward. I love the commercialized hardrock/semi-metal sound, I’m just a sucker for that sound, but to be honest I’m afraid they’re taking it a little too far to the commercialized side. I mean, when Rusted Nail started (and this is not a very nice thing to say, but really what I was thinking), I almost expected Chad Kroeger from Nickelback to kick in… On Through Oblivion: It had a bit of the sound Katatonia has nowadays… only not as good. Really wondering where they’re going with this album.

Couldn’t agree more. Jesper was the one thing that kept the rest in check and prevented too much drama and whining on their albums. However when he left, supposedly to kick his drinking habit (which is BS imho, i think he just didn’t like where IF was headed), the rest (notably Anders) had free reign and that’s where the very different sound comes from. Their last album was definitely different, and i expect as much from this one but i’ll still get it and with time i’ll get used to it again as well.

Alright, I listened to “Through Oblivion” and I cancelled the pre-order. It sounds terrible, even for alternative rock. I don’t know what In Flames, or Anders, was thinking, but this isn’t working out. At all. Gonna ignore the band now, but I will always love them for what they have created.

Im a fan of In flames new and old, I personally think their best work is stuff thats in the middle of their more recent stuff and their roots…this is what excites me about their new album as the band have stated that is their intentions. So far I have heard 4 songs from Siren Charms and my thoughts are as following:
    1. Rusted Nail- The first time I heard this song I was like what the hell was that? It had no structure and was a mess. But after having heard the song many more times I have found myself enjoying it a fair bit more. I now feel it is a pretty decent song but no where near their best.
    2. Through Oblivion- What this song reminds me of is Evil In a Closet without the passion emblazoned chorus. Its kinda catchy but its a song that builds up without a chorus and is ultimately kind of boring. Again not their best work. I think after 2 mediocre by In Flames quality songs were released a lot of us were worried this new album would be ordinary…Enter the next two songs
    3. Filtered Truth- This song has a lot of what I expect from In Flames, this wont disappoint most In flames fans…It doesnt hit the top echelon of In flames songs but its of good quality.
    4. Everything’s Gone- I would rate this song better than Filtered Truth and its also slightly heavier but it still doesnt quite reach their best but this song rocks.

Final thoughts im eagerly anticipating the release of Siren Charms and while I really like the last two songs I mentioned I hope they arent the best songs on the album. If there are a couple more of their quality, one absolutely amazing song I would suggest it would be a very successful album.

Heard the entire album minus the 4 songs that were either released or leaked already. Can’t say i’m a big fan after the first listen. I’m hoping for me to adjust to it or get used to it like i’ve done with so many other bands in the past but right now i’m not holding my breath. There are a few songs in there that are outright horrible that they made me want to skip to the next song already.

Also heard the entire album this morning and I am as disappointed as I thought I would be. The album has some good moments, and “Paralyzed” is pretty decent, but overall the album is boring. I honestly forgot that I was actually listening to In Flames in some parts.
Well, at least At The Gates are coming back. So the swet swedish melodic death isn’t completely dead for me.
RIP in piece In Flames, I will always love you for what you did.
