COMPETITION: THE PERFECT MIXTAPE

VINLLA

You’ve met a girl or a boy and want to make a mixtape as a gift. Which 5 tracks are essential? Submit your picks and win a secret prize.

Update: The winner and honorable mentions have been revealed on our podcast You can listen to the podcast here.

Original story: A mixtape to someone you recently met reveals something about yourself and can showcase a part of who you are. For some, it’s not about just adding the best music, but to cherry pick the best and sometimes the worst, which represent you. Or it might just be more of a test – “If she doesn’t like underground sludge metal he or she is not my type”. Or maybe add something which doesn’t really represent you, to seem a bit more sophisticated? Like Bach’s Symphony in G-minor, Op.6, No.6? Or simply a combination of some track you love, and some you think she or he will enjoy as well?

We announce the competition at the 1:29:50 mark:

To keep it simple, you will have to stick to five tracks, let us know the gender you’re aiming your mix towards, your first name and your email for a chance to win a fantastic prize! No age restriction (who wouldn’t appreciate a mixtape, young and old?) and we ship prizes internationally! Remember that we might discuss your mixtape submission (we’ll use your first name only) on our podcast.

FAQ

How do you judge a competition like this?
Science! Me (I’m Staffan) and Louise run a music podcast where we’ll use the highly scientific method of discussing, arguing and finally settling on a winning combination of tracks. Rest assure, we’ll defend, trash and love all your submissions.

What kind of boy or girl am I giving the mixtape to?
You met this person one night, had a really good time together, sparks where flying – But you don’t necessarily know the person’s music taste.

What’s the fantastic prize?
We will, based on your picks, select one or more albums which we think would be fitting to your persona. We’ll make this pick, on air and live on the podcast. We’ll ship them to you, and you get to choose the format (vinyl/CD/digital).

When will the winner be announced?
On September 1st we’ll air the podcast episode where we’ll reveal the winner and discuss the submissions. No need to listen to our podcast to win anything, we’ll email the winner as well. So, submit your picks straight away!

Have fun – Staffan (Mojib)

Thank you guys for featuring my mixtape on your latest podcast episode, I really appreciate it and am glad that you appreciated my mixtape as-well. I was originally going to put my favorite Velvet Underground track “All Tomorrow’s Parties” instead of “I Heard Her Call My Name” but I didn’t think that it fit my mixtape’s theme, although in retrospect it would have diversified my artists gender wise. It was really cool to be considered, and of course everybody wants to win, but you have to respect any mixtape with James Blake on it (although I would have chosen his cover of Joni Mitchell’s “A Case Of You” personally). Thank you again for talking about my mixtape on the show. For me as a first time listener this episode was a great introduction to your show, and I look forward to listening to future episodes of it.

(Also as a side note I’m not an old dude, I’m 17)
