Turmion Kätilöt is an industrial metal band from Finland which was formed in 2003 by MC Raaka Pee and Dj Vastapallo. Soon after they were joined by the other members of what should become Turmion Kätilöt: Master Bates- bass, RunQ- keyboards, and DQ- drums. At the end of 2004 Spellgoth appeared, an artist they already knew. He immediately accepted becoming the second singer of the band, thus replacing the first backing vocalist Plastinen. Soon their incredible combination of metal and electronic music lured Spinefarm records, a Finnish label, onto the plan and Turmion Kätilöt signed their first recording deal with them.

Concerts

From the very beginning, Turmion Kätilöt has always been a great live band. They are known for their live show full of energy and dedication. When not in the studio, the band has been constantly on tour since its formation. Turmion Kätilöt is a band that is not in the least afraid of attention. In fact, their shows are not only numerous, but also quite impressive. They do not hesitate to throw in scenes of self- mutilation or whatever comes into their minds. Spellgoth is a wicked witch who performs the great majority of said shockers. All in all, Turmion Kätilöt is a combination of very experienced musicians and they have a desire to offer the audience a spectacle of high quality every night.

Music

Since all the band's members have been involved in other bands and played many years, their music possesses quite some maturity. Already their first demos had an exceptionally professional sound. With every record they have set the new standards for the high quality they always demand from themselves.

Turmion Kätilöt has quite a particular style: Many electronic sounds contrast against a rough, growling vocals mainly in Finnish, hard riffs and drums that feature an indefatigable and merciless hammering all wrapped up around a full bass sound. Concerning the lyrics, they are often rather cryptic and hard to interpret, while the general atmosphere is rather dark but sometimes filled with black humor.

Albums

In May 2004 their first album Hoitovirhe was released. There were two singles selected from this album and both of them released before prior to the album itself: Teurastaja and Verta Ja Lihaa the latter of which was also the bands first video. Teurastaja was a huge hit and stayed on Finnish single chart for several weeks. Teurastaja still is one of the highlights of their every show. One year later Turmion Kätilöt presented an EP titled ”Niuva 20”. Named after an asylum located on Turmion Kätilöt's home town, the EP surprisingly included a trio with Marco Hietala (Tarot, Nightwish) and Tuple Salmela (Tarot) on a song ”Stormbringer”, a very unique cover of a song made famous by Deep Purple.

The third album Pirun Nyrkki was released in march 2006. The title track had also been released as a single by the same name prior to the album. For this single, the band called in DJ Proteus to remix Verta Ja Lihaa in two versions. This opus for the time being marked a new musical turn for the band: The songs have become more varied and there is a female voice in "Irstauden Ilosanoma" which is that of Jessi Frey, Velcra's vocalist. In 2008 the band announced a new album: "U.S.C.H". Turmion Kätilöt suffered a long fight with their label which finally ended as the band signed up with Raha Records (a label formed by MC Raaka Pee and DJ Vastapallo), and released a new single and a video of a song Minä Määrään.

Later on June 11th the band released their new album, titled "U.S.C.H", consisting of 10 songs. The single and the full album at MP3 quality were released for free on Raha Records' site. Some might say it was a statement made by the band against their previous label.

On this album for the first time, Spellgoth, who had been singing on live shows only, took an actual part on the album vocals. Also, this was the first time there were songs in English in a Turmion Kätilöt album, leaving out the cover of "Stormbringer" they did in Niuva 20 EP. After settling the arguement with their previous label, almost one year later on 2009 Turmion Kätilöt released U.S.C.H.! On cd format also. The album went to a position #6 on official Finnish chart, being the highest rank the band had reached so far.

The band continued intensive touring until the end of 2009 when they released news saying that DJ Vastapallo, the guitarist and the second founding member, was leaving the band. But it didn't take long when the band announced a new guitarist for the band: Bobby Undertaker, a former guitarist of Deathchain. Turmion Kätilöt played two shows just before Christmas 2009 when B.Undertaker made his first live performances with the band. With the new guitarist, they continued touring with U.S.C.H.! The whole year 2010 including big summer festivals but they also started writing material for the new album, recording songs between the shows. The beginning of the year 2011 was once again another important time for the band. MC Raaka Pee signed Turmion Kätilöt on his own label Osasto- A Records and with this move the band got all the important strings to themselves. They released a single and a video of a new song “Ihmisixsixsix” and soon after on March ”Perstechnique” was released debuting #6 on official Finnish chart. On this album Turmion Kätilöt once again exceeded themselves presenting their best album so far. They instantly started touring all over Finland once again in order to promote the album. Turmion Kätilöt’s first ever show outside Finlandtook place on 7th September in Club K-17, Berlin, followed by an European tour with Pain and Engel in October 2011.
