Nephew of the writer Amin Maalouf, Ibrahim is noted for playing Arabic music with quarter tones on the trumpet, which is a rare skill, pioneered by his father and Don Ellis in the 1960s.
In the early 2000s, counting several awards in international competitions and the diploma of the National Conservatory of Music in Paris, Ibrahim primarily composes and improvises. His music feeds on everything, through meetings, ranging from hip hop to electronic music, through African music, Indian, Balkan, jazz, rock, hard rock, pop, South American music or just a song.
Red & Black Light is his 6th album which will be followed by another one paying tribute to Oum Kalthoum.
