Vargnatt was founded in summer 2006 as one-man project of Evae. His intention is to create very intense and atmospheric soundscapes full of melancholia, sorrow and hope. In Spring 2007 the debut "Wintergrab" was unleashed by Ancient Dreams Records and Karge Welten Kunstverlag and it got very good feedback. Shortly after the demo was sold out the second epos "Nur ein Traum" was unleashed in autumn 2007 by Karge Welten again, this time on Tape and Pro-CDr. This work gots much postive feedback and finally the last reviewer was conviced from Vargnatt. In summer 2008 Vargnatt played their first and only live-gig on the Free Fall Festival in Brandenburg. After a break, Vargnatt released the MCD "Durch die Stille" in 2012.

After two demos and an EP German Vargnatt return with the anticipated follow up 'Grausammler'. The first full lenght manifests a new level in the history of the band. Even though the songs are rather puristic the music reveals its depth – dreamscapes woven in desolation, sorrow and hope.

Greatly influenced by the early Burzum Era as well as Ulver's Nattens Madrigal „Grausammler“ draws the listener into a stream of memorable lead guitars surrounded by harsh vocals. A warm bass-guitar crafts the songs and the drumming by Wiedergaenger (Total Negation, Nachts, ex-Auvandril) rounds it off.

Fragile string and choir performances done by "H.es.a.e. (Nachtreich, Ex-Eudaimony) enclose the sum.

Vargnatt/Grausammler/Eisenwald/2015 CD Review

Vargnatt are a band from Germany that plays a very atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Grausammler" which will be released in May by Eisenwald.

Acoustic guitar playing starts off the album along with the music going for a raw black metal direction a few seconds and the music has powerful bass lines and a great amount of blast beats which also leads up to high pitched screams becoming a very huge part of the recording and the acoustic and heavy parts also mix together quite a bit throughout the recording.

You can hear a lot of melody in both the riffs and solos and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and also bring in a cascadian vibe at times which they also mix in with some 90's Nordic black metal influences and some of the tracks also bring in choirs and strings while the slower riffs bring in a depressive feeling at times

Vargnatt play a style of black metal that mixes the atmospheric styles of 90's Norwegian and modern cascadian black metal together along with a great amount of raw energy and melody as well as a great touch of folk music to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very powerful while the lyrics are written in German and cover nature, depression and philosophical themes.

In my opinion Vargnatt are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Weltverloren" and "Grausammler". 8 out of 10.
