Skuggsjá is the result of a commisioned collaboration between Wardruna's Einar Selvik & Enslaved's Ivar Bjørnson for 2014's Eidsivablot event in Norway, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Norwegian Constitution.
They knew that this was gonna turn into something bigger, and that was confirmed when they replayed the song on their performance at Roadburn 2015.
Now personally I love the sound of both bands, some say Wardruna 'sold out' with Vikings using their soundtrack, others say Enslaved 'sold out' by going from black metal to a more progressive sound.
I couldn't care less what people may say, both bands have an incredible talent for creating musical landscapes and have the knowledge to back everything up.
Needless to say I was stoked to hear the news of this becoming a complete project with albums and everything, and even more so upon hearing the first released song.
It's a perfect blend of Wardruna's darker settings & shamanic chanting, with Enslaved's more progressive mindset when it comes to the drums.
It reminds me of Sunset In The 12th House release in 2015, which combined various folk-settings with very technical & jazzy drums. This is almost the same, only it's deeper and darker, promising a heavy release in March.
Already pre-ordered, can't wait.
