It runs around the house THE DISASTER AREA! After a solemn recording at Deafground Records was signed in July, the release of the debut album "Sell Your Soul" is now on the way. On 11th of November, the record is online and offline for everyone. The band, which was still young, received lots of praise through German-wide shows. But what's the real thing about the preludes: magical hocus-pocus or just lazy spells?
Even if you look at the cover, you get an easy premonition, with what you get to do here. This is a city that is threatening to sink in ice and snow. It looks almost a little end-time, if not the purple clouds above the skyline. Oh and before that sits a fox sitting on a subway wagon, which clearly defies the cold. Yes to fight - Yes to life - that is the message you could draw from it. The music of THE DISASTER AREA also conveys that on their record label debut.
Let's start with some synth and piano sounds in the form of "This Is The New Age" - which suddenly turns into a hailstorm of mark-shattering screams and rattling beats. The guitars fit into the marsh rod and bolster cheerfully. First flotter! The first real song, which was selected a few days ago for the new single, is called "Moments". The track shows at a very early stage of the longplayers what THE DISASTER AREA can do. Blades of riffles bathed with uncompromising drums. And as if that were not enough, singer Alex still spills oil into the fire, in which he releases a psycho-chorus after another. The whole thing is extremely tight. Danger of contagion!
For other songs such as "Diaries Funeral" or "Open Wounds" this is similar. The plate does not show any serious failures. Almost every title has its highlights, which speaks for the good songwriting of the Osterhofen guys. In addition, the high dynamics of the songs have a positive impact. THE DISASTER AREA proves a feeling for cleverly placed breaks. The few quiet moments fit into the overall picture of "Sell Your Soul".
Some tracks do not quite reach the level of the above mentioned songs ( "Speechless"). What unfortunately does not convince me is the previously unlinked single "Sell Your Soul". Here was very cheeky with Oli Sykes and Co. served, which was my opinion absolutely unnecessary. The own riffs are finally more than official. All in all, the song is not really going. The break of stanzas on refrain is, in my opinion, too crass. Seems as if the guys wanted a little too much. In the case of "Downfall Uprising" and "Carried Away", this already sounds much more rounded.
In addition to the fantastic Shouts, singing Cleangesang is used. This sounds quite acceptable, but I miss the attention to detail, which gives the listener no real added value. It's a pity, because here you could certainly have shuddered a bit, if the subject had given more attention.
If you are on the hard-hitting post-hardcore and have nothing against the one or the other Screamo element, you can strike here without hesitation. "Sell Your Soul" captivates with a high melodic feel, implemented on a sound carpet in steam hammerman. I like the mix of the album very well. Here a cool but powerful sound was created, which THE DISASTER AREA is perfectly at face. The bass, which has often been treated so badly, has a very good effect. THE DISASTER AREA join the circle of hope-bearers of the southern German hardcore scene with "Sell Your Soul".
