Long-running Dutch progressive death metallers PESTILENCE have signed a deal with Agonia Records, via the band's imprint Hadeon Records. A new album, titled "Exitivm", will be released in the coming months.

Guitarist Patrick Mameli said: "PESTILENCE and Hadeon Records are very excited to be joining forces with Agonia Records in an exclusive, worldwide agreement to explore new pathways in writing history together."

Mameli revived PESTILENCE for the first time in 2008, bringing bassist Tony Choy, drummer Peter Wildoer, and later also guitarist Patrick Uterwijk to the table. He began writing music for an early 2009 release for Mascot Records, perversely titled "Resurrection Macabre". Alongside a summer North American tour which followed, these were the band's first activities in fifteen years. Together with Candlelight-era releases "Doctrine" (2011) and "Obsideo" (2013), which both saw further lineup revisions, these "first reunion" albums differed in sound, boldly exploring and pushing the boundaries of death metal's brutality and technicality.

Always a restless soul, Mameli surprisingly put PESTILENCE on permanent hold in 2014, aiming to fully concentrate on his side project, NEUROMORPH, and willing to explore other forms of metal. Fortunately enough, in comparison with the first breakup, this one lasted only two years, and saw the band reunite under Mameli's lead in 2016. The re-established PESTILENCE (featuring, except Mameli, bassist Tilen Hudrap, guitarist Santiago Dobles and drummer Septimiu Harsan) pursued a contract with the band's native Hammerheart Records, after several constructive meetings (which also encompassed the re-release of PESTILENCE's early works). At the same time, Eternal Rock Music Agency became the band's booking agent.

PESTILENCE's last album, "Hadeon", was released to acclaim in 2018, taking everyone by surprise with a nod towards the band's early death metal years, yet still nourishing their experimental expression.

PESTILENCE is:

Patrick Mameli - lead guitar, vocals

Tilen Hudrap - bass

Calin Paraschiv - lead guitar

Septimiu Harsan - drums

Dutch death metal legends Pestilence are in the studio working on their new album Exitivm. The album is Pestilence's first with guitarist Rutger van Noordenburg (Bleeding Gods), bassist Joost van der Graaf (Cypher, ex-Dew-Scented), and drummer Michiel van der Plicht (God Dethroned).

"Pestilence is very pleased how the 10 new compositions are developing and taking shape," said vocalist and guitarist Patrick Mameli. "Not even in my wildest dreams I could have ever imagined this monster taking shape like it is doing right now. I think it has something to do with this line-up and sound engineer too. Not only are the new guys: Rutger (lead guitars), Joost van der Graaf ( bass guitars) and Michiel van der Plicht (drums) extremely talented but they fit the Pestilence style. They fill in their parts on a high professional level.

"My guitar sound for this new album is more brutal and heavy than on previous albums so that it crushes the scull and pierces right through the soul. The collaboration with studio engineer Jory Hogeveen at Pitchnote Productions, has been very relaxed since he is a musician himself (guitar player for Shinigami), so we speak the same musical language. So far we finished recording drums, guitars, bass and some leads. It already sounds devastating. Up next are vocals and the rest of the leads. Then we add some intro's and soundscapes to further take the whole concept to a much darker place because the lyrical concept is about mental illness and inner and outer entities aka demons."
