Iggy Pop & Josh Homme are appearently working together on an album called "Post Pop Depression", which will be released March 18th.
Iggy and Queens of the Stone Age/Eagles of Death Metal-member Josh Homme has brought friends with them, including Dean Fertita (QotSA/the Dead Weather) and Arcitc Monkeys drummer Matt Helders.
Thanks for the 20 points, Iggy Pop & Josh Homme!
Wooo!
did you happen to listen to the album before posting this?
No!
Nice surprise, Josh Homme always up to something interesting
this isn’t the name of the project.
No, appearently it’s billed as a Iggy Pop album “produced” by Homme.
I was really excited for this – I mean, Homme, Helders, Fertita, and Iggy Pop…what a lineup! After hearing the first two tracks, though, I have to begrudgingly admit that it’s atrocious. Iggy Pop sounds like a rock version of The D.O.C….his voice is a mess. Has he been gargling with gravel in between bong hits of crystal meth? And the lyrics…the lyrics are laughable. Babbling on about hourglass asses, gas food and lodging…..ugh. And then the fact that he apparently insisted upon his name headlining the project and not giving the other artists, who are far more relevant in today’s music scene, even a mention. Ridiculous. I have fond memories of The Stooges….but I actually had to dig into my music collection to find one of their old albums to prove to my girlfriend that Iggy could once sing. And his nightmarish, shirtless gyrations…looking like some sort of hideous shrunken head propped upon a body straight out of The Walking Dead’s prop department…..it’s absolutely nauseating. Reminiscent of some sort of twisted Family Guy scene or Saturday Night Live skit. Disappointment abounds. Hopefully this “project”, if you can call it that, didn’t take time away from a new QotSA or AM album. That’s all I have to say.
Please write more reviews, this is great
Interesting review bud.
The album has leaked, you nitwits.
So does Homme even sing on this?
maybe some backup vocals… starting to run through this album now
I actually dig the album, but can understand it’s not for everybody. There are some desert rock songs like “Break Into Your Heart”, “German Days”, & “In the Lobby” and some classic Iggy sounding songs like “Sunday”. There are also some weirder cuts that break new ground for Homme and Iggy like “American Valhalla”. “Chocolate Drops” sounds like Iggy singing over a lost Arctic Monkeys track, especially the backing vocals. Even if you’re not a fan of the rest of the album, “Paraguay” is a pretty killer album closer and my personal favorite. The last three minutes is a full-on QOTSA jam with Iggy screeching in an old man’s “Get off my lawn!” type rant. Somehow it works well together. Again, probably not for everybody, but it worked for me.
