During the meet and greet at the Cinerama Dome, Del Rey clarified that "Tropico" is a farewell to the Born to Die era and announced that her third album is titled Ultraviolence. Lana told the crowd that "I really just wanted us all to be together so I could try and visually close out my chapter before I release the new record Ultraviolence".

This is somewhat of a surprise since she recently told reporters that she didn't have a new album in the works, despite several tracks being leaked. As of now, the title is all we got but expect more news to pop up in 2014.

In a fan meet up, Lana accidentally revealed the album will be released May 1st. A screenshot of an Interscope computer showed what is believed to be the tracklist for "Ultraviolence". This list has been added. Lana has also released a tour schedule for April and May in the US, which would indicate the album isn't far away.

On April 3rd a new song leaked, titled Meet Me In The Pale Moonlight. Rumor has it that it was recorded during the Ultraviolence sessions but isn't going to be included on the album.

On April 3rd Lana revealed that the lead single is titled "West Coast". BBC Radio revealed the album will be released on June 13th.

You can watch the title track "Ultraviolence" below.

    RATING: 4 1/2 STARS

“ULTRAVIOLENCE” is the third album from self proclaimed “gangster Nancy Sinatra”, Lana Del Rey. In some respects, Lana’s new record is different from her last two. Like she promised, it is more spiritual than the last albums (More “Blue Jeans”, less “Diet Mountain Dew”). The title track is a swooning track about being reminded of the past, and love in the now. “Gimme that ultraviolence..” Del Rey croons pleadingly. On “Brooklyn Baby”, Lana sings with her sultry, smoky voice, “Well my boyfriend’s in the band/He plays guitar while I sing Lou Reed.” In a soaring falsetto, Del Rey wails, “I’m a Brooklyn baby…” Then, we have cinematic songs like “Shades Of Cool” and “West Coast”, two of the four lead singles. The one thing about Lana though is her razor sharp lyrics. With songs like “Guns N Roses” and “Fucked My Way To The Top”, it’s easy to see why she is portrayed as a bad girl. But, it is on beautiful, orchestral, heartfelt tracks like “Black Beauty” and “ULTRAVIOLENCE” in which she truly shines.

The album is a sad collection of songs. But just because the songs are sad does not make them bad or even slow. Yes the record is not up beat like much of “Born To Die” but it is much more emotive because of that. It truly shows Lana’s ability to change her style continuously and still grasp the attention of the music world. It is a great album, one of the best of this year.

i think it has a lot to do with the production. in born to die, lana had her image a little bit reformulated (’cause she already had a studio album, lana del rey/ray a.k.a. lizzy grant) to fit the pop songs of today, with the beats and stuff, which, to me, sounded too forced (regarding born to die songs, despite having a lot of 50’s and 60’s ambience, i loved the live versions much more than the studio ones, once she dropped the beats and sang along with the piano, guitars and violins – and occasionally, drums, i think).
in this album, i think she has put a lot of effort to make in her way, making it sound more like the a.k.a. album, but mixed with the born to die influences (violins and a little bit of the beats). also, she has moved to a more 70’s sound, a more free spirit. let’s just hope that in the next she doesn’t do the 80’s…
