Well, for one, Polyvinyl Records, out of Chicago, has recently released a very good album by Jacco Gardner, entitled Hypnophobia. Also recently out is a new live album from of Montreal (from Athens, GA): Snare Lustrous Doomings, featuring a lot of live stuff from the Hissing Fauna…Skeletal Lamping & False Priest, etc. era…Really groovy. Also- you might be tempted to just sniff & say -“yeh, so what”, but, no really – Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin just released, IMO, their best album yet: just out about a week ago, entitled The High Country: I was really blown away by how unlike it is from their previous albums -The High Country is more raw, stripped down and it’s just like they decided to chuck the overproduction of previous records and make an album that was more true to what they sound like live on stage. If you, like me, were never really impressed by SSLYBY, do yourself a favor & give The High Country a listen – you’ll be pleasantly surprised!!! AND -if you haven’t heard Owls’ 2nd album yet (released last year! so you’d better have!) you are missing out on last year’s BEST indie album!!! (Owls is made up of former Cap’n Jazz-ers & Joan of Arc members Tim Kinsella, his bro, Mike, Sam Zurick & Victor Villarreal (but not Davey von Bohlen, who, after Cap’n Jazz, formed the Promise Ring). Their first one, from 2000 is super, excellent, awesome and whatever other superlatives you can think up.
