THE BEST ALBUMS OF 2013: THE LIST

“10 albums, 2 voices, 1 year”

And now the list is complete. Our writers Sean May and Matt Doyle have picked 5 albums each, which to them represents albums of the year. To make it interesting, they each had to comment the other one’s choice. While the controversy surrounding Mr. Yeezus dominated the list’s comment section, it was a lot of fun following your reactions on our social accounts (Especially thanks to the singer of The World is a Beautiful Place… who posted Sean’s 2/10 review on his Tumblr). We would like to have added a lot more, of course – Summarizing a year with only 10 albums is difficult, but that’s why you can simply scroll down and have your say. And if you think 2013 is passé , see our what to look forward to in 2014 list.

Album of the year is ‘AM’ by Arctic Monkeys. Without a single doubt. Rest of my Top 10 is right here: http://vvesselvvessel.tumblr.com

Not sure about all 10 or what order it would go in but Amok by Atoms for Peace, Melophobia by Cage the Elephant, AM by Arctic Monkeys, Hail to the King by Avenged Sevenfold, Sempiternal by Bring me the Horizon, Amok and Like Clockwork by Queens of the Stone Age are definitely up there

I’m not 100% sure yet, but it would be something like this:

1- “Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die!” by Panic! At the Disco
    2- “Exile” by Hurts
3- “Comedown Machine” by The Strokes
4- “Save Rock and Roll” by Fall Out Boy
    5- “AM” by Arctic Monkeys
6- “Random Access Memories” by Daft Punk
    7- “Reflektor” by Arcade Fire
8- “The Marshall Mathers LP 2” by Eminem
9- “The 20/20 Experience” by Justin Timberlake
    10- “Yeezus” by Kanye West

It’s just my opinion based on my musical taste.

But if I was supposed to give an award to one of them for best album of the year, I’d have to be more technical and I think that “AM” would get it. It’s a soon-to-be-classic rock album.

i’m actually quite shocked that the latest MBV album didn’t get a nod. i thought it was about as good as Loveless, if not more imaginative. the latest QOTSA was pretty awesome in its own right as well…far from “mediocre”.

While we can’t cover all great albums of 2013, I think Matt and Sean did a great job explaining their picks – and I hope you guys enjoyed having the “second opinion”. And btw, I would like to mention Jon Hopkins album!

Have most of these in my top 2013, but one omission, Baptist Generals Jackleg Devotional to the Heart is my number one. At first I didn’t know what I thought of it but it grows. Saw them when they came through Portland and they are unbelievably good live.
