Claire Boucher is back! The canadian singer, better known by her stage name Grimes, has been through some things these past years after the success her highly acclaimed 2012's album "Visions" got her into. After releasing a track originally intended for Rihanna and scrappin her follow-up album (presenting us with "REALiTi", a demo from it), her fourth one is in its way. Entitled "Art Angels", the album is presumably out this month, October. We have some bits of information, like it supposedly features a lot of “real instruments,” and it has at least one glam-rock song. But official so far is the artwork, which is by Claire herself as posted via her instagram account, and the promise of a video for next week.

On the process of "Art Angels", Claire told Q Magazine:

"I was a much weaker person when I wrote Visions. It was a sad record -- cathartic, but victim-y. During this album I’ve got control of my music. It feels more developed. On Visions I was still in school, mentally. Since then, I’ve wanted to make something strong and aggressive because it’s more reflective of me."

Besides that, Claire has found herself influenced by what she calls "bro art," a realm which constitutes everything from Al Pacino to Bruce Springsteen. [...] She explains how these bros informed her soundscape. "‘One song on the album, 'Kill V Maim,' is written from the perspective of Al Pacino in The Godfather Part II’," she tells the mag. ‘‘Except he’s a vampire who can switch gender and travel through space.’‘

Double album I want the EDM/electro “Go”esque album too! I loved “Go” and I love Grimes no matter what. But I’m pretty disappointed “music critics” and public opinion are controlling her creative outlet and self expression. and cool artwork:)

but @pelle, claire said in interviews she hasn’t scrapped the album because of critics and public opinion. she thought the music were too depressing and didn’t feel like touring with them, so she went for a fresh start. besides, “go” was a song written/composed for rihanna, so… else, claire said she may put out the scrapped record, but i wouldn’t expect an official release.

That may well be true I haven’t heard the “too depressing” comment. But I’ve read several different places that she felt she wasn’t considered a “real musician” by her peers and critics Before she started playing acoustic instruments rather than a solely electronic sound. So my understanding is she scrapped the purely electronical sound based on the reception of “Go”. Granted it’s somewhat speculative. But hey I’ve been waiting for 3 years for a followup.

Okay even if you love grimes you have to admit that’s pretty ridiculous. Or maybe she’s just being facetious because it’s an interview in “mainstream” press. Either way…

Totally, and Visions album is a masterpiece… dunno why she acts like this! A melancholic album or sad, could be a wonderful piece of art, im a bit scared of the result of Art Angels.
And for the debate about her skills in music composing, look at the KEXP live… She’s doing a real great performance.

you can’t blame an artist for experimenting and changing their sound. I think an artist should develop a certain sound for each album they put out. I’m trying to be open minded but I’m not really feeling these new songs that are posted. Flesh without Blood sounds a little too polished and poppy, very generic, almost top 40ish. Screams has weird vocals. Life in the Vivid Dream is pretty cool though. It gives me hope the rest of the album might be more to my liking. I hope we can get our hands on the scrapped album as I think I would enjoy it more. This is just my opinion and I hope these songs appeal to many new fans. I think Claire is awesome and I wish her great success.

I don’t really want to be “that guy” but this post shouldn’t be called “Grimes 2” it’s her fourth studio album, that’s why it says “No. 4” on the album art.
