Tame Impala’s New 8 Minute Single
I thought Tame Impala’s 2012 Lonerism album fell short, not living up to the hype – That’s why I’m very excited to announce new material. Today we got the first taste, Let It Happen is an 8 minute, beat heavy psychedelic pop wonder. You can download the MP3 version, if you’re willing to trade your email at their official website. An album has yet to be announced, although the band described their upcoming effort as “It’s probably gonna be less rock again and more electronic, even more than the last one. It’s gonna be awesome, everything he [frontman Kevin Parker] does is awesome.”
I would agree that Lonerism, as a whole, wasn’t as epic as the hype that preceded it. But I can safely say that Apocalypse Dreams was still a more epic premier single that this one. Don’t get me wrong, I like this song, but I feel like the Lonerism hype you are talking about definitely came from how blown away were by that single’s release. Maybe this is just Tame Impala playing it safe and is saving the Epic stuff for the release.

But Apart from half the album rocking the rest felt like filler to me. Time will tell I suppose.
“Let it Happen” was chill. Nothing to blow my mind, but the glitchy bit in the middle annoys the hell out of me. Don’t remember the ‘Lonerism’ single but the last single to really get me really was “Pyramids” off ‘Chanel Orange.’ The vibe, sound, album art, etc. Could have cut two minutes out of happen and It would be fine. Not bad but nothing to wet myself over. sorry bout it.
I think this track is great and very disco. Kinda like what Arcade Fire did with Reflektor. Kevin Parker is just getting better and still very young. Very much looking forward to the new album.
