Second album from The Empire of The Sun is titled Ice on the Dune and is set for a June release this year. In line with their previous singles and music videos, the album has a big budget, grandiose trailer attached to it. The band is made up of Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore.

The band also made a statement, which in line with everything else they do, is epic and grand in scale - To say the least.

"Once, the world was pure. It was the Emperor and the Prophet who kept it thus. Each day, they charted the sun’s course across the sky, guided rivers down from mountain peaks, brought rains to quench raging fires. With the aid of their four priests, who possessed spirits of wild animals, they travelled the world tirelessly, maintaining nature’s delicate balance, allowing all things to grow and flourish -- always with the aid of the sacred jewel held atop the Emperor’s crown."

"But one night, as the Emperor slumbered, recovering from his labours, true darkness appeared. The King of Shadows, ever the bitter foe of the Empire, and all it had achieved, crept into their temple. Craving the Emperor’s power, he stole the jewel from his crown-- and in an instant the world was changed. Robbed of the bulk of his power, the Emperor and the Prophet watched helplessly as their temple was torn asunder, and their priests cast far out into the world. But even in that moment, when all appeared lost, there was one thing that the King of Shadows black heart simply could not have imagined... The Emperor and the Prophet have never abandoned hope."

Ok I got the album now what the hell. Is discovery not a song? I dont know if anyone will agree with me but I really dont like this new album. Epic Fail. It’s like they created a new sound with the Walking on a Dream album, then decided hmmm we are going to go in a new direction, before the original direction was even established. I listened to Ice on the dunes, and now I have to listen to Walking on a dream to cleanse my ears.
This is coming from a Major Fan of Empire. I blare Breakdown as I cruise around town, even though people stare at me like I’ve lost my mind…. MMCKAIIYAA

EDIT: I love this album now lol

Have already listened to this album four times from start to finish now and initially I was like: Eugh! This is way too ‘pop’-y and really not what I had expected.
But after a while the songs start to grow on you, and honestly I think almost every track on this could be released as a single. Seriously, if you aren’t keen the first time you listen to Ice on the Dune, then come back to it in a few days for another go :)

And to the guy who said Discovery isn’t on the album, you should have a listen to Old Favours and see if it reminds you of ‘anything’!! :P

The new ‘Empire of the Sun’ album crushes new ‘Daft Punk’ – in a cage match. …Bloodied.

I’m totally into this album! I feel like it has a nice light and upbeat energy throughout and totally puts me in a good mood! This has me even more excited to see them at Electric Forest in a couple weeks :)
