Words can't express how much joy flooded my heart when I heard the news this morning that Gregory Alan Isakov was releasing his new album "The Weatherman" on July 9! I'm so elated that I can't even think clear enough right now to type my own description, and AmericanSongwriter.com did a brilliant job enough so here's their words (and Gregory's himself) on this upcoming record:
“The idea of a weatherman is really powerful,” says Gregory Alan Isakov, an indie-folk troubadour whose voice channels Paul Simon and whose songs combine the rootsy influence of Bruce Springsteen with the sharply-worded insight of Leonard Cohen. “There’s a guy on television or on the radio telling us the future, and nobody cares. It’s this daily mundane miracle, and I think the songs I chose are about noticing the beauty in normal, everyday life.”
Isakov recorded The Weatherman, his third full-length album, in the cozy mountain town of Nederland, Colorado. The songs were tracked on analog gear and mixed to tape, resulting in a record that evokes the vintage sounds of its creator’s influences. Take that, digital.
The Weatherman will be released on July 9, three days into a summertime tour that will take this South Africa-born/Colorado-based traveler across the continent. In the meantime, fans can stream “Saint Valentine” below. Come for the finger-plucked guitar arpeggios; stay for the vocal harmonies, which swirl in the background like a well-played B3.
(No official album art has been released yet so just a photo of Gregory on the side for now!)
looking forward to this.
Me too! Should definitely be one of the finest albums to come out this year!
Gregory Alan Isakov is one of the most heartfelt artists out there. He cares about his music in ways that no artist does and I think all of his tracks are perfect. I have been waiting 4 years for this album and I know it will be well worth the wait.
Agree with you 110%! This is one of of my top albums I’m looking forward to this year! Sad to see that “Mercury” isn’t on the tracklisting though (unless it’s been given a new name). Everything this man puts out is perfection to my ears :)
GAI is strikingly beautiful. His music has changed my life. I am so grateful that he was born. A new album is quite a gift. I look forward to spending hours of my time listening to Weatherman at my kitchen table with coffee first thing in the morning.
I’m so pumped for this album. I’ve only discovered GAI within the last year or two, but he’s quickly become one of my all-time favorites. I won’t be able to see him play live. He’ll be in WI (my home state) when I’m on vacation in CO and will be playing in CO the day after I get back. : The worst luck ever. At least I have this album to look forward to.
can’t wait for this. I’ll be seeing him at the end of the August!
