Trent Reznor's Nine Inch Nails returns with a new album, titled "Hesitation Marks".
From TR: “I’ve been less than honest about what I’ve really been up to lately. For the last year I’ve been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly fucking great. This is the real impetus and motivation behind the decision to assemble a new band and tour again. My forays into film, HTDA and other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking Nine Inch Nails to a new place. Here we go!”
The album will get four different album covers, the one featured is for the digial version of the album.

Not imo. NiN is good but the first single is just a rip off of his former work. I’ll hope on some more experimental songs on the album.
You are entitled to your opinion. I don’t know how you can rip off your own material… I see it as just continuing where he left off. It definitely still sounds like the Nails we all love.
I’d say that’s based on Reznor’s own statements about the album. I was a bit surprised when I heard the new single as well. Based on the information I read from him on it, I was expecting a deviation from the norm. I love NIN, so I’m fine with it …. but I was definitely surprised.
He has stated that the single was specifically designed to be reminiscent to his earlier work. He has also stated that it’s the only song on the album that is in that vein/approach. Hesitation Marks is a reflection on his past; he was working on The Downward Spiral about 20 years ago.
It totally is just an amalgam of stuff that nin is supposed to sound like. I mean, even the title/chorus is a “What up, bitches!? Guess who’s back!? It’s the mothafuckin T-Rez!” Basically. I didn’t like those aspects of Bowie’s new album that were self-referential/retrospective-ish, and Trent’s been at it for way less time than Bowie. Still, the other new songs from the album that have debuted live seem to redeem it.

Can’t wait for this!!!! “The Slip” was the only album Trent/NIN ever put out that was, in my opinion, shit. But then again who’s to complain about a totally free record, released by the man himself & seen as a “gift” to the fans? So, that’s a free pass. Every other record he’s ever put out has been pure genius.
Digging the new track; feels like a combination of the most prevalent elements from “The Fragile” & “Year Zero” – dark, angry….yet, VERY electronics based, which gives it an almost “dance-y” sound; I love how Reznor manages to simultaneously create this anxious, lonely but somehow upbeat vibe. My bet would be “Came Back Haunted” is the WORST song on the album – which makes it better than 99% of everything else that comes out :-)
