A 5-person vocal band born in Arlington, Texas that combines various genres such as pop, soul, R&B, and electronic music.
When Pentatonix (Avi Kaplan, Kirstie Maldonado, Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, and Kevin Olusola) were competing on "The Sing-Off" in 2011, they placed no fewer than 11 songs in the top 10 Soundtracks chart on iTunes; after their win, their YouTube channel went on to rack up tens of millions of views and their debut EP, PTX Vol. 1, entered the Billboard 200 at number 14 and the iTunes pop chart at number one. It's arguably Pentatonix's wild popularity, combined with the success of the film Pitch Perfect, that led to NBC's decision to revive the once-canceled "Sing-Off" (the rebooted show returns Dec. 9, hurray!).
