Sigur Rós will follow up last year's Valtari with a new record this year. They're now signed to XL Recordings worldwide, who will release Kveikur on June 17 internationally and June 18 in the U.S.
As mentioned in January, the band says their new material is "more aggressive". The band is now a three-piece, following the departure of multi-instrumentalist Kjartan Sveinsson.
Footage recently surfaced of Sigur Rós playing three new songs live, reportedly titled “Kveikur”, “Yfirborð”, and “Hrafntinna”.

We’ve heard 5/9 of the album so far… and…
Brennisteinn, Isjaki and Hrafntinna are some of their best work… like, ever.
Kveikur is very good too.
Yfirboro is very mehhh.
So, yeah, I’m super stoked for this album. Valtari wasn’t really my grain of salt, but ( ) and Takk were fantastic.

This one stood out to me a little more than Valtari, but honestly anything after agaetis byrjun and ( ) kinda runs together. All fantastic, heart wrenchingly beautiful music, but it’s always about the same. Still a great listen this breezy afternoon…
