The Darcys are four guys making beautifully constructed songs. They're a band from Toronto comprised of Jason Couse [vocals, guitar, keys], Wes Marksell [drums], Michael le Riche [guitar, synth, vocals] and Dave Hurlow [bass]. Some may find comparisons with Tortoise, Jaga Jazzist or The Sea and Cake helpful, though it's more pop than sound experiment for a post-rock band. Their remake of Steely Dan's AJA is remarkable given that it seems to outshine the original by a fair margin. It's moody (good), the music has a complexity that holds up to repeated listening (better), and for a first full album of original material, it's worth disappearing somewhere for a while with headphones (best).
These guys are absolutely ace. This is bound to be album of the year material.
AJA was amazing. I expect no less than this from them.
