The album features music by Skrillex and composer Cliff Martinez, a former Red Hot Chili Peppers/Captain Beefheart drummer who has written a string of great scores, including Drive, Traffic and Contagion. Skrillex shows up on 10 of the 19 tracks, while the rest of the soundtrack is rounded out by contributions from the likes of Rick Ross, Waka Flocka Flame, Gucci Mane, Meek Mill, Ellie Goulding and actor James Franco.
Skrillex had previously promised that the soundtrack would be "more or less traditional scoring" rather than his usual club-friendly material. This may have not been entirely accurate, however, since a press release calls this "a collection of party anthems." Skrillex's collaborations with Martinez are reportedly "electro-house-driven." The album even includes Skrillex's signature tune, "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites."
Spring Breakers will receive a wide release on March 22. This film about a spring break adventure stars Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, Rachel Korine and James Franco.
