Chelydra launches their most recently production: “Retrato Oval” (“Oval Portrait”), title that references an Edgar Allan Poe short story: “The Oval Portrait”.
“Retrato Oval” is an album that won’t be easy to digest at first hearing. Several brass arrangements, strings, and the constant usage of acoustic guitars create a symphonic rock environment around the main themes of the album, which surely would make it more accessible to a broader audience. Don’t be alarmed though, because the distorted guitars and the strong rhythms found their place in “Retrato Oval” (“Oval Portrait”), a perfectly balanced and orchestrated album.
It’s a complete work, mature and well done, with whose Chelydra have overcome the boundaries of the Mexican rock and have accomplished more than any band have with a first LP.
