Death, the great proto-punk power trio from Detroit, made records in the 1970s, but broke up and moved on to other projects. Then, in 2009, Drag City released their unearthed 1976 LP ...For the Whole World to See. (This story is expertly told in the documentary A Band Called Death.) The album was followed with another collection in 2011 called Spiritual, Mental, Physical. Now, they've got one more LP of archival tracks.
Death III is out April 22 via Drag City. It features some of the final recorded Death tracks featuring David Hackney, who died of lung cancer in 2000. The tracks were recorded in 1975, 1976, 1980, and 1992. The opening track is a guitar improvisation called "Introduction by David".
"North Street", below, was recorded in 1980. It's released as a 7" on Drag City on February 18, backed by the 1992 track "We're Gonna Make It".
