Death From Above 1979 say they aren't feeling the pressure of recording the long-awaited follow-up to their 2004 debut because the press and fans have been demanding it.

The Toronto-based band released 'You're A Woman, I'm A Machine' a decade ago, but split in 2006. They reunited in 2011 and are set to release a second album – titled 'The Physical World' – in 2014.

Speaking to NME, the duo say the impetus to record new material came from their fans.

Drummer/singer Sebastian Grainger said: "No matter what Jesse and I do, on whatever scale of success it's sat on, there's always some kind of reference to Death From Above. It's only frustrating because it's so lazy. So we're putting out a Death From Above record and if the press is like, 'It's not what we expected,' or however they react to it, it's like, 'Well, you've been fucking asking for it.'"

The duo also say that releasing new music is key to their continuing as a live band, having reunited for South By Southwest and Coachella in 2011. "This record is a key for us. It will permit us to go play the shows we want to play and it gives us the freedom to do what we want," said Grainger.

Due for release in September and produced by Noel Gallagher/Oasis producer Dave Sardy, the band describe one track on the album as being like "Springsteen meets Sonic Youth".
