Deftones are set to release their new album on April 8th. Or at least, that's the rumor. Nothing has been confirmed or denied. An advance stream of the album was supposedly given to a journalist, which seems itself highly unlikely as it would be very early in the promo process.
And April 8th is a Monday, when release dates are often set on a Friday. And the album cover included is purely fan art. But since we know that Eros has been shelved for now, let's use this entry as a placeholder for anything Deftones related.
This album is posted twice but this one has Smile and album art. I wish they would release this album. Chino admitted the band’s original plan was to release this album when Chi recovered fully. I think its important that the band has never said it will be shelved forever. I want them to heal and get through the grieving process but I understand that it can take a while to feel significantly better. The silver lining in my opinion is the band came together after the accident and has been closer then they had been in a long time in the wake and so far have put out two great Deftones records. Smile is an amazing track, and if the album is anything like that track I can not wait to get my hands on it!
It shows a release date of 9.25.15…to my knowledge, this is for the “new” album, not Eros. Am I missing something?

Nope, but it might be right. Chino posted a photo of Freddy Krueger and a title at the bottom left that says “Prayers/Triangles” which is supposed to be the opening track from the leaked photo.

Since it seems highly likely that the album is indeed titled Gore, I’m renaming this entry as there’s another one for the now shelved album Eros. The Metal Injection @nickels26 still doesn’t confirm the title. But let’s wait and see.

I have to agree. I’ve been a Deftones fan for ~15 years or so and this is probably the 2nd worst single I’ve heard from them (behind only Mein). Production is poor, auto-tune is obvious, song is repetitive, vocals are poor quality, and the screaming part’s EQ is horrible. It just sounds sloppy and spliced together as a whole. Hopefully the rest of the album is quite a bit better, but from what I’ve heard from Stephen pertaining to creative differences, I’m far from optimistic about how things will turn out.

They played a new song titled “Doomed User” the other night live. Hoping that it sounds better in the future, but the early take is that it’s interesting. Chino’s vocals were pretty harsh sounding.

Doomed User is streaming on the SiriusXm website. In my opinion, it more than makes up for the disappointment that was P/T.

When the song is a demo, this is true. It sounds unprofessional, not cool in a low-fi way like Nirvana’s “In Utero” album. Had the quality been reminiscent to that album, I’d love the slightly less produced sound.
I think a Deftones album with production from Albini would sound muddy as shit….and Abe’s chops would be a mile away from everything else. Steve Albini has some interesting ideas for production, but I don’t think the approach would be a good one for the Deftones style of music.
Like Failure’s first album, “Comfort;” that album has so much potential. But production/mixing ruined what it could have been.
I meant that as more of an example than anything else, not a direct comparison. I would personally prefer if the band went back to Terry Date, but I wouldn’t have a problem with a “lo-fi” sound. The problem, however, is that the mix sounds horrible on the two songs that have been released and you can hear the auto-tune in the vocals.
It sounds unintentionally lo-fi in some ways and digital in others, but in the worst combination possible.
Chino released a clip of Hearts/Wires at the end of one of his playlists. It’s just over a minute long and it’s amazing.
