If you've been longing for more material from beloved Canadian indie folk figure Hayden, you'll get your wish this spring. The celebrated singer-songwriter will deliver his eighth full-length album, Hey Love, on March 24 via Arts & Crafts.
Coming two years after the release of Us Alone, the set was mostly performed solo by Hayden Desser at his Skyscraper National Park home studio. Live band members Jay McCarrol, Taylor Knox, and JJ Ipsen did contribute to parts of the recording, though. Desser also handles production duties on the platter.
According to a press release, Hey Love is "a scrapbook of downtimes fought and resolved, love lost and love solved." The album is said to have partially taken inspiration from the work Hayden and his wife Christie Greyerbiehl put into last fall's "Dream Serenade" benefit concert for Toronto's Beverly Street School. The show raised funds for developmentally disabled children.
Described as being "about loves both comfortable and disconnected," the title track is said to feature "chiming pedal steel" and falsetto-sung vocals from the solo artist. Elsewhere, the set apparently features "sun-soaked shuffles" and "triumphant piano."
brillant :)
