Building a career on singing in English and then switching to your native tongue is way more trickier than you would think. Not all succeeds with this task. However, swedish singer-songwriter Frida Hyvönen is doing it. The first single from her upcoming album "Kvinnor och Barn" (Women and Children), entitled "Imponera På Mig" (Impress Me), is a testament of her skills as a songwriter and lyricist.
With the new record, Hyvönen takes another rather unexpected turn, as the single is clearly R&B-influenced with its rhythmical vocal arrangements, repetitive chorus and sparse instrumentation, and then you add the empowering lyrics of an independent woman tackling with the insecurities of her partner. Nothing but excellence compressed into 3 minutes and 30 seconds. As Frida embodies her Nordic roots both in dialect and lyrics, you can’t help but to be delighted and this truly feels like the start of something grand.
