Halloween may be over, but the fall season also encompasses a much less morbid sense of leaves falling, weather changing, and the end of summer’s bright sheen. The new album from Matt Pond PA, Winter Lives, may have the coming season in its title, but its shimmering harmonies are perfect for setting suns, windy streets, and the cooling temperatures.
From early albums like 2002’s The Green Fury to last year’s The State Of Gold, the prolific group continues to explore new sonic landscapes of lush acoustics, studio-aided electronic tweaks, and gently rolling rhythms, aided by lyrics that alternate between melancholy and optimistic. The group is hitting the road in December for a short series of East Coast dates, though given the band’s productivity, there will doubtless be further dates soon enough.
