Sex Stains, the current band of Bratmobile singer Allison Wolfe, are releasing their self-titled debut album this Friday (9/2) via Don Giovanni (pre-order). You don’t have to wait until then to hear it though — a full stream premieres in this post. Allison is of course one of the OG Riot Grrrls, and she hasn’t lost her sarcastic edge one bit. Like her old pal Kathleen Hanna, she’s making music that has all the power (and a lot of the sound) of the original Riot Grrrl era, but feels modern today too. It’s quite a feat, and it’s even more proof that Allison Wolfe remains a total punk icon.
Back in the early ’90s — and then for a little while again in the early ’00s — Allison Wolfe led the awesomely acidic riot grrrl band Bratmobile. These days, she’s based in Los Angeles, and she’s the frontman of a new band with the amazing name Sex Stains. Later this week, Sex Stains will release their self-titled debut album, and it shows a righteously playful sneer and a playground-taunt tunefulness that some of us will remember form Wolfe’s days in Bratmobile.
