Damnation Plan are a Finnish Progressive Metal band that blends Melodic Death Metal with both clean and harsh vocals that gives echoes that of their influences, as well as their own trail that they are blazing. Reality Illusion is the band's 2nd full length release and their use of atmospheric undertones with heavy rhythms, gives the band texture and an emotional presence that intensifies their music.
Reality Illusion tackles the idea of being estranged from the reality until we are forced to face it. The album, on a whole, delivers this message while covering a wide scope of feelings and perspectives. Songs like "Beyond These Walls" and "Rulers Of Truth" remind me of Soilwork with their manic riffing, harsh vocals and then a sweet melodic chorus with clean vocals to deliver a bit of polish to them. Also included is a great version of the Dio classic, "Don't Talk To Strangers", in which the Damnation Plan does an excellent job of giving the song a modern touch, all the while staying fairly close to the original. A really good, imaginative cover.
You can hear the Scandinavian Metal influences all over this 2nd full album and that's a good thing. Reality Illusion is a solid 12 track record, filled with some heavy rhythms, staccato riffage, a good mix of vocals and also really good production. If you like your Metal with progressive tempo changes, good vocals and Melo-Death edges then Damnation Plan is a band that you will want to check out.
