Metric frontwoman Emily Haines released her first album under the moniker Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton with Knives Don't Have Your Back in 2006, then followed that up with the What Is Free to a Good Home? EP in 2007. The project's been largely dormant since, but that's about to change.
Haines has shared a new single titled "Fatal Gift," and as the Globe and Mail reports, it comes from an upcoming album called Choir of the Mind.
The 13-song album was recorded in Toronto at Metric bandmate James Shaw's studio, with Haines handling production duties herself.
"The through-line of this record is a fascination with feminine strength and what that looks like," Haines told the Globe. "Often, we're presented with either vulnerability out of innocence, and that's celebrated, or a sort of hardened, leather-jacket-over-your-heart, 'I've been through it all' toughness, which I refuse to become. I refuse to become tough. The process of making this record was about going into those places but bringing out light. This isn't a record that brings you down."
