Toby Driver is a man of many talents. He fronts Kayo Dot and maudlin of the Well, plays in a number of other projects (like Vaura and Stern), and has led his own solo career for over a decade. He’ll release a new solo album, Madonnawhore, on April 21 via The Flenser. Toby aimed to make a sparse album of “traditional songwriting” and lead single “Avignon” achieves that goal. It’s a quiet, haunting song, with little more than Toby’s voice and electric guitar (and a nice amount of reverb). A lot of Toby’s music is freaky and experimental, but this is intimate and personal. Check it out — the song makes its premiere right here.
