This difficult-to-classify New York experimental music band based in Manhattan, New York City. The band is known for its distinctive sound which features synthesized electronics and percussion, plus the varied vocal styles of singer Lizzi Bougatsos.
Gang Gang Dance started as free-form noiseniks; over the years, they've managed to mellow out without moving to the center-- evolving into purveyors of pan-cultural body-music, marrying club beats with lyrics about communing with the dead. Like Arthur Russell before them, they give equal floorspace to the spiritual and the sensual.
Gang Gang Dance have announced a new album. Kazuashita is their first LP since 2011’s Eye Contact. The band has also shared the new song, “Lotus.”
Kazuashita is due out June 22 via 4AD. It features contributions from Jorge Elbrecht and drummer Ryan Sawyer. It was produced by band member Brian DeGraw, who released his album SUM/ONE in 2013.
