Tindersticks announced today that their 14th studio album “is finished and will be gradually revealing itself over the coming months.” They add, “As it was Valentine’s day, we thought we would share ‘Falling, the light’ from the album with you.”
“Falling, the light” is available to listen to and download for one week only via their archive. It’s got that otherworldly air that all great Tindersticks songs do, with drums that sound beamed in off an old Victrola radio, vibraphone and twinkling guitars/piano as a gorgeous bed for singer Stuart Staples.
Of the song, Staples says, “All the songs have had their own unique path to being realised and finding their place on the album. ‘Falling, the light’ started its life with Dan at the piano, but that was just the beginning of its musical journey – It slowly found its sound and balance in a strange and beautiful way.”
“The words were written quickly on a ‘South Eastern’ train during a visit back to London with all the memories that that city holds. While much of the album is agitated and struggling for understanding, ‘Falling, the light’ is a quiet corner of some kind of solace and calm.”
