Woolfy vs. Projections is the duo of California-based musicians Woolfy, AKA Simon James (a UK expat), and Dan Hastie. The duo worked together as Projections for a period before James went back to the Woolfy alias solo, and since 2005 when the duo have collaborated they've used the name Woolfy vs. Projections instead. After a string of singles since 2000 the duo released their first album The Astral Projections Of Starlight in 2008 on German disco label Permanent Vacation, which RA's William Rauscher described as "a breezy excursion into downtempo electronica... an imaginary soundtrack to some serene sci-fi shoreline."
Astral Projections was a concept album surrounding Captain Starlight, whose story Return of Love continues, wherein "the astronaut returns to earth after his odyssey in space, finding his lost love." The album was recorded in a log cabin in California's Big Bear mountains in a few days with "a grip of analog keyboards, pre-amps, laptops, and fine ales," and a press release cites the likes of David Crosby, Brian Ferry, and Wings as prominent influences on the duo during the album's recording. The album also features a collaboration with Tensnake on "Nina."
