Dave Benton is the lead singer to NYC lo-fi indie rock band LVL UP, but for his solo outings he goes by Trace Mountains. With LVL UP, he's released four albums since 2011, and often times the track on those albums came to fruition through his solo work; similar to how Car Seat Headrest has reinterpreted music he wrote previously for a new take on it, Benton is doing the same thing with Trace Mountains and LVL UP.
LVL UP released "Return to Love" in 2016, but now, as Trace Mountains, Benton will be releasing his first solo album "A Partner to Lean On" under the moniker, and it's first single features a song sometimes performed with LVL UP but now just a solo track "Turn Twice."
