Waterparks are out to conquer the world. It's been a hectic few years for the Houston trio. The group's sophomore album, 'Entertainment,' was plauged by drama regarding frontman, Awsten Knight's personal life, and increased tensions wity the record label. With the cycle of fan rumors, theories, and speculation surrounding the band's music and lives, tensions amongst it's members rose, culminating in Awsten taking a break from social media mid-tour, and returning with sudden announcement that he deleted the album instead of sending it in to the label, and started it over from scratch: "I have something different to say now. May. Saturday 7PM" he wrote.
Fans first got a taste of the new Waterparks sound with the song "Turbulent" setting a marker for a new gloomy, aggressive, yet glossy style, perfectly encapsulating Waterparks' amalgamation of genres. Awsten sent a cryptic tweet simply stating "Fandom" the weekend of Slam Dunk Festival. It was all but confirmed that the pop-rock trio's thrid album would be entitled Fandom.
3 months later, fans finally got the album's lead single in the form of "Watch What Happens Next," a pop-punk rallying call for a change of the guard in the rock scene, and a stinging criticism of the toxicity in rock culture. Meanwhile the radio single "Dream Boy" addresses the romanticization of band members by fans, and the mental health consequences of those expectations, juxtaposed with a dance-rock groove driving the whole song.
Waterparks are definitely the next big thing, so catch them on The FANDOM Tour this Winter!
