In late 2019, during the promotion of "Norman Fucking Rockwell", Lana Del Rey revealed plans to release a poetry album in January (linked to a poetry book collection, which she'd already stated she wanted to publish before "Norman..." studio album), and that part of the proceeds would go to "Native American organizations across the country, whether for preserving their rights or for trying to keep the land intact".
Although "Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass" has not been independently published yet, Lana revealed, through social media, the album cover, designed by artist Erika Lee Sanders, and a video containing one of the tracks, the poem “Happy” - which had the text published in February 2019 - with music by Jack Antonoff.
On the thought process of this album, she stated before that, following some writer's block while beginning work on "Norman..." in 2017, she had begun writing poetry, shortly afterwards revealing she would be binding the book herself and be selling copies for as little as a dollar. When asked why the book would be so inexpensive, Del Rey replied "because my thoughts are priceless".
During her promotional cycle of "Norman...", Del Rey described the book as consisting of "thirteen long poems", though she has teased shorter pieces on social media since, including "Never to Heaven", "Happy", and "Quiet Waiter-Blue Forever", among other pieces.
The album has been postponed several times (due to personal reasons, even). Let's hope with the quarantine status of the world, "Violet..." will finally come.
