ENTER THE VOID

Toydrum, a project from film composers, and UNKLE collaborators, Pablo Clements and James Griffith, is out with their debut EP, Distant Focus Vol. 1. If you’re looking for a dark instrumental score to ease you into foggy fall mornings, or if you dare take a late night trip into the void, this music will take you there.

Similar to the work or Ennio Morricone, the tracks on the EP soar and achieve an almost cosmic largeness that somehow feels just as appropriate as the backdrop to a massive space epic as it would sound as a rousing accompaniment to a morning jog. Clements and Griffith seem to have a unique ability to make the music sound huge while giving attention to detail at the same time, resulting in the songs being richly textured and with a dynamic production. Being collaborators and members of UNKLE, Clements and Griffith continue the same musical lineage of the group, melding electronic ambience with more cinematic strings and other orchestral flairs.

The EP, out today, is available at Toydrum’s website. Stream the brutally dark last track on the EP, I’ve Got A Future, featuring British singer Gavin Clark, below.
