The results are in!
You nominated the albums. You voted for the albums. And now the results are in. With thousands of votes coming in, it’s been exciting to follow the process. Some only chose to vote for one album, others picked three. However, Slipknot took the lead quite quickly which was surprising since some either regard them as not true metal, or a disappointing album because of the hype. But it’s clear that most of you did think it was the best album of the year. Beartooth comes in second and is the surprise hit since it hasn’t been one of the most active metal album on the site this year. Very close, with only a few votes behind, we find UK’s Architects and their massively popular album.
You’ll find the complete list below. And the comment section where you can vent your frustration or the conclusion that everyone is wrong except you. Even if you agree or disagree with the list, it was a lot of fun doing the list with you. Thanks to everyone who participated!

Beartooth? Really? I mean, it’s not bad, I just wouldn’t consider it top 2014.
Had a feeling Slipknot would win, would of hoped Architect would take the crown though. Now for Beartooth, I just wished Caleb did a few more cleans on the record. Don’t get me wrong, it was such a fresh release in the Metal scene, but in my opinion it was like a 7/10. Maybe it was just the popularity of Caleb that got the votes.
Interesting, none of my favorite metal albums of 2014 even appear on this list. That’s sad.
Sabaton – Judas Priest – Panzer – Overkill – Exodus – Bullet – Accept – Iron Savior – Wolf – Axxis
I think Job for a Cowboys “Sun Eater” deserves to be mentioned here somewhere. That band garners a lot of hate from metal purists, but the singer is the only remaining member from the “Doom” era from which it’s negative reputation was born. “Sun Eater” is definitely a testament to the bands maturity and could be considered progressive in the pool of Metal bands they’re usually clumped in with. Frankly, I was kinda blown away by it. A lot of the album is reminiscent of Megadeth’s “Rust In Peace”, albeit much heavier, and (arguably) Opeth’s “Blackwater Park”.
Shameful, wow.
Slipknot as best metal album and no Damon Albarn on the main list. What a crock of shit.
Sorry, I can’t take this list serious. xD
Lugal Ki En. NOICE!
I dont like any of those albums
The Satanist. Not only is it the best album of the year, but one of the best extreme metal albums of the past decade. Hail The Mighty Behemoth!
I like how the best albums begin at the middle of the list. Cannibal Corpse, Pallbearer, Yob, Vallenfyre, Misery Index, Bloodshot Dawn, Crowbar, Bloodbath,… :D
But my personal favourite for this year has to be “Alestorm – Sunset On The Golden Age”. How many times I listened to this album…
Yeah this list is pretty terrible.
In no particular order, my favorite three from 2014 were:
Cannibal Corpse – A skeletal domain
Behemoth – The satanist
Decapitated – Blood mantra
Still, each to their own i guess.
No love for Mastodon? Shame.
