Devin Townsend is extremely pleased to announce the long-awaited new double-album Z² on October 28 in the U.S. and October 27 in Europe. Devin had this to say:
So it's been years I've been trying to get the energies in line to do another Ziltoid record, and it's finally happened! Z2 is my new record, and it's a multimedia event that has taken a ton of people a ton of effort to bring to you! It's a double album, (one side DTP, and one side Ziltoid) and the concept expands on Ziltoid the alien, and his sci-fi adventures in a way that kind of throws back to 50's radio plays... but obviously with complicated, heavy music as its soundtrack. It has taken a great deal of energy to put this all together, and the music is just one of the aspects of it. It's a dream come true in a lot of ways, and I'm excited and honoured to be able to finalize the project with a live version of the entire record at the famous Royal Albert Hall in London on April 13th of next year! (!!) Basically what we did with The Retinal Circus a few years back will be taken to the next level with Z2 live.
At the end of this process, we reached for the stars, and hopefully got to the moon, and after this album cycle, I will be taking some time to recharge my batteries and see what the next chapter holds. I hope you enjoy this record and all its offshoots, as one of my goals is to hopefully inspire folks to reach for unconventional ways to express themselves as well. We couldn't have done it without you! See you at the show?"
Devin announced that his only concern about the leak it’s the version of “Fallout”. According to him, the song still has a “final” version.
it’s available on KickassTorrents, by the way.
That isn’t his only concern, he thought the whole mix was wrong.
Am on my second run of listening to both albums.
Am VERY VERY pleased with both of them!
I love ‘Dark Matters’ for everything it is. The choirs sound surreal on War Princess, March of the Poozers.
You can also hear elements from the Hummer (title track) in Rain City which I thought was cool. They’re kind of sped-up so they sound different.
This is not the final version of the album, but the promo version given to journalists more than a month back. Devin Townsend has stated that he has redone mixing and mastering because “it wasn’t just right”, shortly after he gave the promos away. So, this version here will not sound like the final release. A method of distinction, as stated by Townsend himself, is that if it’s him singing the chorus in “Fallout”, then it’s the old version.
Any news on the final mix of the album?
Well I think I’m just gonna wait for the release and buy it, it’s an amazing album anyway.
It’s out today in Japan, so hopefully it should surface soon
I really had hoped it would leak today.
saw a itunes rip on newalbum(dot)eu
not sure if it’s legit though.
I noticed they removed the dialogue at 2:52 on the track Z2. Made me think it was the dialogue free version at first lol. Sounds way better.
Ziltodian Empire is a little different even, there are parts of the album that also had more work.
The final version is out there. At first i thought it was just an upscaled version of the 192 kbps version, but the chorus during Fallout doesn’t have Devin singing.
You can tell just by listening to the first few seconds of Z2 and Rejoice. There’s a second of ambiance that isn’t on the promo versions of the tracks. My sampler version of Rejoice before the leak even had it.
Most of the said leaked versions that are out there have dialogue missing from the start of “Dark Matters”.
I’m going to wait until it comes out on iTunes on Sunday at Midnight to get it.
IMHO the new version of Fallout sucks,.. Devs voice suited that chorus 100% better and Anneke just feels so weak here… Looks like I’m going to buy the 3 CD digipak and replace the final version with a ripped promo version because it just sounds way better to me.
So epic and, dense and powerful… Amazing album!
