Casey Crescenzo is no stranger to taking on creative musical projects, but his latest musical endeavor may be his most ambitious to date. The Dear Hunter frontman is currently working on composing his first symphony and hopes his fans can help raise enough funds to finance recording a four-movement work with the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra in the Czech Republic this fall.

Up until recently, Crescenzo and his band were busy making waves in the indie rock world with their first three concept albums, “Acts I-III,” which used music to tell the story of a fictional boy and his journey through life. It wasn’t until Crescenzo started working on “The Color Spectrum,” a series of EPs aimed at interpreting each of the spectrum’s seven colors through a four-song EP for each, that he found his love for symphonic music.

Crescenzo, who grew up in a musical household, said he always found classical music “incredibly inspiring” but that he “didn’t really possess the palette to understand everything that was going on.”

It was through working on preparing the arrangement for “The Color Spectrum Live” DVD and planning a U.S. tour in September, both of which feature a performance of all 36 songs accompanied by a string quartet, that Crescenzo found a passion for arranging.

Crescenzo says, via press release, “I found myself with an intense yearning to create a piece of music vastly different than anything I had before, one that would take influence from the music that has really moved me in the last few decades. Never being one to give myself an easy job, I felt a four-movement symphony was the perfect challenge.”

Additionally, Crescenzo said that while he’s not entirely sure what he hopes to accomplish with his new project, composing a symphony is something he feels passionate about completing.

“That feeling has been my guiding factor in the past, so I have to trust it. It will seriously be a dream come true if this campaign is successful and if the music is actually recorded,” Crescenzo says.

Fans who wish to support the project can do so here; incentives for those who donate are also listed on Crescenzo’s Pledge Music page and range from autographed score books to joining The Dear Hunter frontman in the Czech Republic for the recording of the symphony.
