Depeche Mode, the synthpop originators who became dark-pop elder statesman, have just announced plans for a new studio album, the follow-up to 2009?s Sounds Of The Universe. The new one is called Delta Machine, and hopefully that title does not imply that they’re trying to make electronic blues now. Ben Hillier produced the album, and longtime collaborator Flood mixed it. A deluxe edition will include a 28-page book full of Anton Corbijn photos, and first single “Heaven” will also come with remixes from people like Matthew Dear and Blawan.

The best part of this news? A looming Depeche Mode arena tour. They’ve only announced European dates thus far, but American ones will surely follow. I saw them headline Lollapalooza on the Sounds Of The Universe tour, and I can say in full confidence that you should go see them if you get a chance. Check the album’s tracklist below.

Listen to second single "Soothe My Soul" below.

I’m stoked on the new material. Hope everyone gives it a well-deserved spin over at the iTunes stream.

The album isn’t that bad as people say.
Just give it time to grow, every depeche album has to grow.
It’s for sure a lot better than sotu.

I feel that this album is better than the last 2, altough PTA definitely had its moments.
the sound is more complete, more melodic and u can clearly hear the “depeche” marks in some songs. Maybe its not as much a “unit” as the peaks MFTM, Violator or SOFAD were, but i think a lot of good parts are there. Should be higher, Secret to the end, Broken, Alone and even Slow are very good tracks. Also i think All that’s mine could have made the album too. Its true that i would’ve been happier if the more rithmic songs were more complex, taken a little bit further with middle eight parts, but….. As a conclusion.. i like it, its a real depeche sound, and for me better that PTA and definitely better than SOTU

And yes, the arrangements, the production, could have been a little bit better, the surrounding sound, the cover…still lacks …something…

This Album is REALLY Bad, forget about the Mix, forget about the guitars and the synths, The songs are Very Bad.. I think it is the worst Album of Depeche Mode.. I wanted to believe it is not truth but every time I hear it I end up with the same thoughts, “The songs are Very Very BAD”…., the Arrangements are bad,, the compositions are very bad.

there’s nothing “Good “or “Very Good” or “Fantastic” about the songs. They should NEVER release these ideas.
    (sorry about my english)

I’m really surprised by the mixed opinions about this album. I think this album is very good! There are some weaker track on it, but in overall, this is really good. For the first listening, I felt some tracks weird(?), I was disappointed, but after listening it 2nd time, I started to like even those tracks and now I think they’re good too, but there are some really excellent tracks on the album. So in overall it’s a 4/5. Great album with some weaker, but still good songs.
I totally disagree with those, who says it’s DM’s worst album. For me Exciter was the worst but it was still OK.
    Ultra was a perfect album.

Well i for one think delta machine is great, depeche always try and push the boundaries when it comes to music, been a depeche fan 20 years and i can tell you its another smash, everybody has opions, its just a matter of taste,if everybody embraced certain changes in every album they have done they would probably think differently,in order to keep fresh you have to change things, remember SOFAD they were mixed reviews about that when it was more rocky, grungy sound,so come on give the guys a break, alone is a classic song as well as satify my soul, slow is a big grower after a couple of plays

DM is DM best album since SOFAD, back in 93.
Signed: a die hard fan who’s seen them live “circa” 20 times.
