After a canceled tour and band turmoil that led fans to wonder whether Kings of Leon would ever release new material, the group has rallied back: they're set to release their sixth studio album, Mechanical Bull, on September 24.
While further details are scarce, bassist Jared Followill told NME, "I thought we were going to make a really mature album but I'm amazed how youthful it sounds. It's like a mix of Youth & Young Manhood and Because of the Times." Rolling Stone can also confirm the band worked with longtime producer Angelo Petraglia in their new Nashville studio.
The Mechanical Bull announcement comes after a long period of fan speculation on the future of the band; the group scrapped a 2011 tour citing "vocal issues and exhaustion" after frontman Caleb Followill left a Dallas stage and failed to return. Jared Followill later tweeted: "I can’t lie, there are problems in our band bigger than not drinking enough Gatorade."
The band played a new song on June 8th, for the Governors Ball. Caleb Followill introduced the song by saying: "We're gonna play a new song we've never played before, so if we mess it up it's your fault." While we don't have a title yet, you can listen to the track below.
“It’s like a mix of Youth & Young Manhood and Because of the Times.” It’s gonna be their best album.
A band claiming their new album is going to sound like their most critically acclaimed and popular work? What a surprise.
considering Only by the Night was their most “critically acclaimed” work, I’d say, shut the fuck up. They’re just giving a feel for the album. I don’t care one way or another how it sounds, still gonna listen to it, and hopefully enjoy it
Thats the spirit…
Enjoy music… even if you don’t like it, it’s you who doesn’t… if you do… well, you do like it. And it is that that matters in the end.
Altough that I must say that Youth & Young was their best album… cause it was the first… nah, but they were into a more deep and indie spirit and post rock way then they are nowadays… they seem more tender like 30 seconds to mars… no way that they are now the way they started it… only if they were like this all along and fooled some people… if thats the case I feel fooled.
Yeah but he also said:
When asked if it’s gonna sound like the earlier KoF:
“Not really. There are definitely elements of it. Songs. Not as a whole though. It’s a culmination of all of them.”
And when asked to which album is going to sound like:
“Vibe/feeling could be compared to the first couple. It’s much more musically complicated though, so I’d have to say the last 2.”
This sounds really really promising. My favorite band, they’ll never disappoint me…
Why are Kings of Leon in the Indie section? o_O
The same for John Mayer…
I’m now a level 3 member so I’ve moved them both to into the Rock category :)
new single ‘supersoaker’ to be available online next wednesday according to nme.com
Kind of annoyed how they just made this album the combo breaker. All of their albums but this one will have 5 syllables. Unless they change the name. Which would be cool.
It still has 5 syllables like the old ones, ME-CHA-NI-CAL BULL.
You’re an idiot.
hahahaha!!!!

Okay, there is no way this album is not out there….if TOOL’s 10,000 Days snuck out 2 weeks before it’s initial release, no excuse why this has not come to light. It’s out there, believe me, someone has it…please post!!! Also digging the new album, only thing that bothers me is that they only have 2 verses, then a repetitive chorus in their songs. They need to be longer, with 3 verses, and at least 2 chorus, and not so repetitive at the end of their songs. This can be seen on Supersoaker, Wait for Me, Beautiful War, and on Family Tree. Only one that does not do this is It Don’t Matter. Is it just me, or does this bother anyone else. They are so talented, but need to extend their songs.
I kinda liked the two songs, nothin mind blowing but enjoy them. The deluxe artwork is rad…the regular one, not so much. Looks like they are having fun..
Three years later they are back, this is so so good!
