I'll Find a Way includes a variety of gospel songs and spirituals past and present, recorded at Justin Vernon's April Base studio in Wisconsin, where he also recorded 2011's Bon Iver. Vernon worked with friend/Shouting Matches bandmate Phil Cook of Megafaun to choose the songs and put together the backing band. The album ranges from Civil Rights movement-era anthems like "I Shall Not Be Moved" to a spiritual rendition of 2012's "I Am Not Waiting Anymore" by Field Report. Vernon himself sings on a cover of Bob Dylan's "Every Grain of Sand".
